Adult Instruction & Classes

The Introduction Classes are meant for climbers who are new to the sport of climbing.

The Belay Class teaches individuals the important skill of belaying; taking up the slack in the rope as a climber ascends. The Movement Class teaches climbers about climbing technique, route reading and body position. If you prefer one-on-one attention, Private Lessons are a great way to hone your climbing skills.

BELAY CLASS (Free to members)

Requirement: Must be at least 13 years old

Class times:

Saturday: 11am, 2pm or 5pm

Sunday: 11am or 2pm

 

Price: $50 (non-Member) Two-week membership and Rental Gear is included in the cost of the class.

INTRODUCTION MOVEMENT CLASS:

Requirements: Must be at least 16 years old

    Minimum of three people required.

Class times: 7-9pm on Wednesday Nights; months offsetting the Advanced Movement Class

The Advanced Classes are meant for climbers who are further along in their climbing journey and want to take their skills to the next level.

Lead climbing and belaying will redefine climbing, from clipping technique to rope management; it is the next step for a well seasoned climber. The Advanced Movement Class takes the skills you already have to the next level – building upon what you already know, and turning you into the climber you want to be.  Anchor Building & Sport Route Cleaning Class class will cover some of the basics to get you climbing outside, such as building anchors, cleaning sport routes, and rappelling.

LEAD CLIMBING & LEAD BELAYING CLASS

Requirements: Must climb at a 5.10ab level and be Belay Tested

    Minimum of two people required.

Class times: Two separate classes, 6 hours total

Requirements: Lead certified and an interest in learning

Climbing Wall Association

The Climbing Wall Association (CWA) is a non-profit membership association whose mission is to support the development of the climbing wall industry, to promote the sport of climbing and to advocate for its members. It is currently the only organization of its kind in the United States. The CWA’s network includes more than 400 private climbing gyms, college programs, athletic clubs and recreation facilities, as well as climbing wall and equipment manufacturers, media and industry supporters.

The CWA Instructor Certification Course is a voluntary course that establishes a uniform set of performance standards and practices. These standards and practices will unite and inform climbing instructors throughout North America. Individuals who complete the course will receive a CWI (Climbing Wall Instructor) Certification Card issued by the CWA.

An Additional Lead Climbing Certification may be added for $50. The class is held the following day and requires 4 hours of instruction.

Class Times: The course will be held one day for 8 hours

Climb Iowa is now offering First Aid/CPR Classes.

Coach Matthew Creason is a certified American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor.

Requirement: Must be at least 16 years old

Class Times: Wednesday nights, when scheduled. Classes run for about 5 hours.

This Movement Class is meant for climbers of the boomer generation who are new to the sport of climbing.

Tom Weaver will be teaching a class for Boomers interested in trying and learning more about climbing. This class is four weeks long and will be a combination of instruction and practice.

Class times: Fridays from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Price:  $69 (members)/$99 (non-members)

Non-members also receive a membership that runs concurrently with this class.  In addition, all gear rental is included for the month.
